“The touch may be temporary, its imprint lasts forever.”
The word ‘comfort’ seems to be the essence of solace. Your first cup of steaming coffee in the morning, the voice of rain crashing against your roof, the crisp smell of eucalyptus oil, in my case. This word, which holds unique to so many-I look at my grandfather plucking jackfruit pods with great enthusiasm. It’s the little things that bring him joy. This sketch may be a simple black and white sketch with three hands, yet it aims to portray a range of emotions. The two hands on the extreme right are his, whereas the one hand on the extreme left and smaller in size is mine. Our hands briefly provide each other with comfort, reassurance and Solace. Time waits for no one, the only place where it can freeze, or even stop for a brief moment, are your memories. I chose my grandfather as a subject for this sketch to face the harsh reality of time, as well as preserve and protect this special moment, as a memory.
