A bully

By Gayatri Batra | August 2016

He takes away your bravery
He takes away your pride
He takes away your confidence
On which you thrive

In a quick moment
He lingers in your soul
Your heart stops, your mind stops
You cannot let yourself behold

The person who was once beautiful
Beautiful and free
Has stopped
And has come to a point
Where she cannot glee
Because of a bully

Contemplation on "Life"

By Gayatri Batra | Cass 11

Life is a task, compete for it
Life is a game, play it
Life is a treasure, find it
Life is freedom, fight for it
Life is a paragraph, complete it
Life is everything you need, plead it

If I’d known how you feel

By Gayatri Batra | April 2019

If I’d known how you feel.
I’d often ask myself,
Would I have done anything
Anything just to make you feel contented.
Anything just to let you know that YOU …..you are not alone.

You were a kite without a string,
A feather in air,
Drifting in a world of your own,
A world where darkness had no ceiling
And sorrow no curb

And I saw you,
You smiled cheerfully through me,
A glimmer of hope in your eyes,
But then I looked past you
Looked past you,and pretended I hadn’t noticed those
Searching ,desperate eyes,
Thoseeyes thatwould once gleam with happiness.
But now glisten in ever flowing tears.

I’d often tell myself,
you would pull through,
somebody but not me would notice you,
andwould just sit beside you.
A pillar of support was all you needed
For every kite needs a string and every feather belongs to the bird
That eventually reaches home.

The truth is the fruit that tastes the most bitter
For I had known how you felt all along,
Like the world seemed so large,
But you standing in the middle of it barely made a difference
And you ask yourself,
Are you really that insignificant?

I watched when you were breathless with grief.
I watched when you were exasperated with the world.
I watched when you ached for a friend

I heard when you just wanted to be heard.

I saw a reflection.

And then, I left.

India’s gift to Math

By Gayatri Batra | Class 9

"Our world is filled with dots and naughts
with zeros that can make heroes of a single number
from 1, 10s, 100s, 1000s 10,000s to infinity

we even have "bindus"
that were invented by the Hindus
which look like a wheel or circle
isn't that close to a miracle?

The distance between earth, sun and moon
we know, we cannot calculate it so soon
but our three famous astronomers
Bhaskara, Aryabhatta and Bramhagupta
calculated it with ease
using mathematics as a means

The discovery of use of a decimal
is credited to us
in the mathematics story omnibus
Therefore what we contributed to maths is no mystery
It is very well known in history!"

The moon

By Gayatri Batra | Class 10

The moon is wide awake
and so am I...

Slowly, slowly it rises,
Waiting for its entrance
I wait and I watch
with full confidence and dependence

It tells me a little secret that
it does not want to be seen
For it hides and keeps away
all its mystic beams.

When I look at it
I am carried away
into a little world of my own
a land, far far away from my very own home

The River

By Gayatri Batra | August 2016 | Class 7

With so much beauty and so fine
I feel that the river is divine
As it flows through shallow creeks
oh I would love to just take a peek
When it flows, the world stops
and listens to its lovely sound
As it can nowhere else be found

But when it stops
the mournful voices cry
and everyone starts to pry
for the river they loved has come to an end
which they once had treated as a dear friend.
